Corporate Social Responsibility

Delta Helps

At Delta, we’re committed to helping build strong Canadian communities. Helping others has always been important to us, both as a brand and as individuals.

Our corporate social responsibility program, Delta Helps, is our way of showing this ongoing commitment to the communities in which we live and work. We want to do more than just financially support our charitable partners, and find more opportunities to connect with our communities in meaningful ways that benefit us all.

Supporting Habitat for Humanity and environmental initiatives are our main focuses but it is equally important for us to support local causes that are valued by our employees and the surrounding communities.

If you wish to submit a donation request, we invite you to review our corporate donations guidelines and submit your request.

Here are some of the other ways Delta Hotels and its spirited team of employees are strengthening their communities and making a difference together.

Habitat for Humanity Canada

We are proud to join Habitat for Humanity Canada in a Gold level partnership that includes fundraising, volunteering and championing the cause of affordable housing in communities across the country.

Every day, we provide shelter to our guests and Delta’s partnership with Habitat is a way of extending that commitment by providing a welcoming and safe environment to those who need it most.

This partnership commits Delta to a defined financial, in-kind and volunteer resource donation each year, and will run from 2009 to 2011.

As part of this commitment, Delta will provide Habitat with an annual donation to support home building activities. This annual donation will come from corporate funds and hotel fundraising across Canada.

Each Delta hotel is working with the local Habitat affiliate in their region to develop fundraising and volunteering opportunities. A minimum of one fundraiser has been committed by each property to raise money for Habitat, as part of the Delta Helps program.

Green

Delta Greens is our environmental sustainability program that touches on every aspect of the hotel business – from guest services to construction to how we operate and maintain our properties to how we work with our suppliers and engage with our employees. Under the program, all hotels in the chain will commit to decreasing their energy consumption, carbon emissions and water consumption by 30% within five years, as well as reducing waste by 10% and increasing waste diversion by 25%.

We are committed to sharing our journey towards increased sustainability with the public through an interactive tracking tool called the “IRIS” which stands for Integrated Rating Indicator for Sustainability. Our IRIS is posted in the Delta Green Watch section of our website, and is updated three times a year in collaboration with Loop Initiatives, the sustainability integration and measurement consultancy that helped develop Delta Greens.  Visit www.deltahotels.com/greens to follow our progress.

In addition, all of our properties participate in the Hotel Association of Canada’s (HAC) Green Key Eco Rating program, and we are the first national hotel chain to become 100% meetings certified under HAC’s Green Key Meetings program.

Delta Community Cruiser

The Delta Community Cruiser is a summer-long tour that demonstrates our commitment to building stronger communities across Canada. Six Delta employees will drive the 2010 Toyota Prius hybrid car more than 12,000 kilometres to visit 34 communities in 10 provinces over a 74-day period. The tour starts in Victoria, B.C. on June 1st and ends in St. John’s, N.L. on August 13th.

From community car washes and golf tournaments to fancy hat tea parties and building homes for Habitat for Humanity, the Cruiser Tour showcases the importance of volunteering and giving back to your community.

Our six employees – the Delta Community Cruiser Ambassadors – will join employees from across the chain to work alongside the many charitable organizations and community groups supported by local Delta properties, including Habitat for Humanity, our national charitable partner. Look for the Cruiser in your community this summer!

Adopt-a-Shelter

The “Adopt-a-Shelter” program is designed to help improve the quality of life for abused women and their children.

Through this program, hotels provide shelters with re-usable goods from guestrooms, such as furniture, bedding, towels, curtains and other related items. These ongoing relationships assist women and children living in shelters, as well as those seeking a new beginning in second-stage housing. Hotels participate in this program by working with their local "adopted" women's shelter.

Home for the Holidays

For twenty years, Delta has reached out to families in need during the holiday season through "A Home for the Holidays".

Participating Delta hotels across Canada offer short-term complimentary accommodations to out-of-town families visiting hospitalized relatives during the months of December and January. Administered jointly between local Delta hotels and their selected partner hospitals, the program offers comfort to families dealing with the stress of illness, by providing them with a home-away-from-home during the holiday season.
